What an impressive device! It has ports filling both front and back! They call it a “docking station”, but to me it is a fancy USB hub. It is made as a USB laptop dock. It greatly expands on your laptop’s capabilities. There are two 4K HDMI ports plus two display ports. That’s FOUR displays you can add onto your laptop! There is a gigabit LAN port, a 100 watt power input port (and the power supply is included!) and one USB-C port for hooking it to your laptop. There are three USB-A 3.1 ports, a SD card slot and a TF card slot. That’s a LOT of expansion possibilities! I have a few unused monitors lying around in my computer shop. I intend to hook ALL of them up just to see what my laptop can do. I know it can do 2 monitors. What about FIVE monitors??? Probably not, but I’m sure going to give it a try. I also noted that it can supply charging power to devices attached to the hub. The product listing says it can support resolutions up to 5120 by 2880 at 60 hertz. That’s amazing! Both the HDMI ports and the display ports support 4K resolution. Providing, that is, your monitors and cables also support 4K…You can pack up all those power bricks and cables because this device can replace them all by supplying the power to the attached devices directly. I definitely like that idea. My wife has been on me to do something about all the wires by the sofa where I use the laptop while watching the one eyed god. That’s the TV, of course. This device supports Apples, Macs and Windows (7, 8, 10 and 11). It boasts fast transfer speeds. The 3 USB 3.1 ports are backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 3.0. I need that compatibility. The hub is small physically, but it is a giant in capability. It has a metal case, durability built in. There is no fan, I noticed. I’m guessing the metal case is a big heat sink. In the box are the hub itself plus a 100 watt power supply, two USB-C cables, one of which is the power cable, and the user’s manual. I like what I’m seeing as far as compatibility and throughput on my laptop. I’m looking forward to getting lots of gooe use out of this expansion hub!
Works great, will run 2 external drives and 14 peripherals without issue. Of course the more drives one plugs in the slower the data transfer, I only use one at a time and switch off what is not in use. Charges devices the same as plugging into a wall outlet. I could have used a longer USB cord though, 5 or 6′. Of course now I have a cable management issue but that’s not a fault with the device. 16 ports creates a lot of cables just hanging out……
So I got this to enable me to read an SD card on my laptop, so this was definitely overkill, but now my laptops can interface with my monitor seamlessly in addition to my phone getting charged, USB devices to share files and information between devices…My main issue is the size of the dock, but docks are usually large to begin with and given all the ports and things this wants to merge, its understandable that a dock like this would be like this.I don’t know if it’s me, but I fed ethernet into the port and did not pick up ethernet in my computers… it’s probably me, but just know that that port is not specifically plug and play. To be clear, I ran a hot line to the back of the dock, then ran a USB 3.0 cable to my PC and did not pick up a LAN signal…Also in the might-be-me category is the Power Delivery. My Dell Laptop did not like the juice from this Dock. USB-C plugged into the GAN Charger (which is nice, by the way), USB-C plugged into my Laptop, and it did not illuminate the little charge light on the bottom. I tried two Dell Laptops and got no lights from USB-C or USB 3.0. (Turns out they need 130w, not 100w.)This gaming laptop pulls 330w from the wall, so that wasn’t going to happen…Speaking of my personal laptop, a Lenovo Legion, did pick up the Mini-SD card I plugged into it, so it is a functioning dock. However, I would just double-check the power requirements of your devices so you don’t run into issues like I did. Again, I accept that, that is on me, but for someone who just inadvertently picks one of these up, that could be an issue you could avoid. You also need a good number of USB 3.0 cables to maximize the potential of this dock… it has 3 slots on the front… then four ports on the back. The dock is beautiful.Just make sure it fits your use case… and isn’t selected for all the ports and things that it does also.
This docking station is a workhorse. I can connect two external monitors through HDMI and DisplayPort, plus a whole host of peripherals. The 100W power delivery keeps my laptop charged while I’m working, and the SD/TF card reader is a lifesaver. It’s a bit bulky, but the sheer number of ports and the smooth operation make it a worthy addition to my desk.
I previously had a 10 port hub but I kept adding items that needed a connection to my computer. I use my laptop on my lap and the connecting cord was getting weakened by constantly being bent as I lifted the computer to my lap. I then discovered this 16 port hub and ordered it. So far it works well. When I turn on the computer often a notice comes up that it wasn’t able to recognize some of the drives, but I feel that is a limitation of the computer rather than the hub. So I an happy that I can plug in all my hard drives, charging cords, etc. and still have a few ports left over for other new gadgets. I found the cord that comes with it too short so I ordered a 3 m one that works well.
