This docking station has truly transformed the way I work with my MacBook Pro!The dual monitor support is undoubtedly the standout feature of this docking station. With 2 x 4K HDMI ports, I can effortlessly connect two external monitors and enjoy a seamless multi-screen setup. The plethora of connectivity options is another major plus.There is one drawback worth mentioningâthe absence of a DisplayPort. Although the two HDMI ports provide excellent video quality, some users might miss having a DisplayPort option for specific display setups.
I’ve been a Mac guy since 2006. It’s difficult to go back once you go Mac, but there are some idiosyncrasies that can be a bit irritating with Macs.One of them being the ability to connect multiple screens and devices when all you have are USB-C ports and limitations on what Mac software lets you use. Windows PCs for quite sometime do not have the same limitations and seem to have far more options in these regards (in general).Because of this I have wasted a lot of money trying to get peripherals and hubs to help me connect screens and devices. I bought cheap hubs and the most expensive ones with a wide range of challenges and issues.My current setup is that I have a Macbook Pro 8-core (32GB Ram & 4GB Graphics 4TB HDD), 3 external screens (2x 32* wide screen. 1x 34″ Ultrawide screen), 1 USB Mouse, 3 external HDD, 1x printer, 1x Obsbot webcam. I have a couple of Twelve South StayGo USB-C hubs to help connect things.As my Mac has 4 USB-C ports I typically connect 2 of the screens via 2x HDMI-USB-C leads which does drain my mac a little. The Twelve South StayGo Hubs are OK for connecting 1 monitor each but there is a noticealbe drain on my Mac making the fans go overtime. So not ideal. And since I upgraded my Mac’s OS to Sonoma I started to experience my Mac freezing and crashing. (Sonoma is not the best choice BTW).So because this was effecting my workflow I was looking for a more flexible and reliable hub, especially one that could be power externally to reduce the drain on my mac.After lots of research and reading reviews I ordered this DOB SECHS Laptop USB C Docking Station. It is very well made, very well structured and paid out.It does have the ability to be powered externally which I did for a month, but I found plugging the power into my Macbook direct rather than into the hub was far more efficient.It is smaller than I expected from the pics, which was a pleasant surprise. It manages the plugging in of 2 monitors which frees up one of the USB-C ports on my Mac. The management of my monitors is seemless and has little to no issues to date. It is powered by a double USB-C port lead which makes using it far more reliable (a complete contrast to using my Twelve South StayGo Hubs) and I can actually plug all my other devices into this DOB SECHS hub with virtually no issues – completely tidying up my desk layout.I’ve not done it yet, but it is compact enough to use it on the road too.It may not be the cheapest hub out there (it is still the same price as the Twelve South StayGo) but to date it is the most reliable, versatile and dependable hub I have ever used for my Mac.When you are Mac owner you tend to go through all the cheap and expensive options to eventually find what works (reliably) and for me this DOB SECHS is the one that ticks all the boxes.I could not recommend it more highly. I’m glad I purchased this.
This USB hub/docking station allows me to connect my mouse and keyboard, speakers and 2 displays to my MacBook Pro 16 Inch with dual monitor display. It also has a lot of other ports to do anything I need without plugging directly to my laptop. It works well and I have notice no delay with plugging into this vs plugging directly into the MacBook. I am pleased with it and it helped to declutter my desk from all the wires coming out of the computer itself.
I actually really liked this, its neat and seems high quality, in fact I bought 2! (one for my wife too). It was working perfectly and then this morning for no reason, it simply stops working. I have rebooted and booted and no life!… I then try to return the item and guess what, the returns window closed literally a few days ago. The returns window seems to be just one month. 🙁 thats the thick end of £100 in the bin!
I populated all the ports at the back of it (besides VGA) then I plugged my phone to the USB-C port at the front the device started acting weird and I lost the display signal on both my displays. USB-C port was able to provide power for 10 seconds, then off for another 10 seconds …then back and forth… Hence the three stars….
