Rose is about to arrive on the shores of South Island when a storm hits and her ship is wrecked. Just when all seems lost she is snatched from the jaws of death by Will, who risks his life to save her. Drawn together by circumstance, they stay together by choice and for a while it seems that their stars have finally aligned.
But after a terrible misunderstanding they are cruelly separated, and their new-found happiness is shattered. This is the 3rd book I’ve read by this author & the least liked. The relentless abuse by Robbie made the reading stressful & unenjoyable. Her other books were 5 Star!
Good to imagine life of the early settlers.
Long-winded, predictable, and altogether boring. This was my second novel by this author, and the afforementioned attributes also describe the first. It’s amazing how well-loved novels by some only receive shudders from others.
I loved Sarah Maine’s first book, House Between Tides, but the other three that have followed haven’t been as interesting for me. Alchemy and Rose is depressing, has no likable characters, and possesses a predictable plot that screams don’t bother finishing. At about the midway point, I skimmed the rest (as opposed to abandoning the whole thing because I paid for it) and read the last chapter. Just as predicted. I can’t recommend this book because it was so disappointing.
I bought this book after enjoying The House between the Tides. She certainly can tell a good story. This was another page turner! The characters were all very well defined, the plot maybe hard to believe. I shall certainly get her next book.
