A light-hearted Regency tale, the next in the Wild Marchmonts series.
Stephanie Marchmont, 17 years, has been sent from London to cool her heels in a country house in Surrey, to be separated from her loving family as punishment for her putting herself in danger there once too often. But she encounters a band of footpads attacking a gentleman, and enters the fray with her customary bravery.
The Earl of Hedley is entranced by his rescuer’s offer to teach him some lessons in manly sport, and although he is the foremost sportsman in England, he wickedly accepts her help.
There begins the jest that his friends Sir Rupert Armitage, Lord Benjamin Fortescue and the young Horace Pettigrewjoin in on, and Stephanie’s adventures continue.
But will all the friends continue to see Stephanie as merely an amusement ? Or will hearts collide?
Advanced Readers say:
This is a clean, sweer Regency novel spiced with witticisms and romance. — I laughed all the way through!
I adore Stephanie and her companions, I was cheered from the first page.

I swear to goodness I haven’t had as much fun reading since my teenage years when I discovered Georgette Heyer. Cameron’s characters are completely irresistible, her plots fabulously engaging, and there’s humour on just about every page. Personally, I can’t get enough of them, and this second adventure with the Marchmont family did not disappoint. (Warning – be prepared for involuntary snorts and spitting out your coffee laughing.)
This book is a bright shot of humor for a rainy day or any day really. The antics of Miss Stephanie were highly entertaining. In all of AC’s books there is a wonderful sense of camaraderie of friends along with the warmth of family. It’s enthralling and entertaining and, well, rather addictive. xx
This story has an original plot with Hedley’s slight deception, hiding his true talents from Stephanie. It had me smiling and chuckling throughout, well, except for the short portion in which Hedley reflects on the illness and childhood death of his sister.Full of delightfully witty banter and teasing among the characters, I found this a most enjoyable read. I hope we’ll see more of Hedley’s friends.
More adventures from the most eclectic and entertaining family of the regency world! This loving family and their stuck up relatives create friction by just living in the same house. A wonderful collection of wisdom, love and farce. Brilliant, sharp and witty writing lays out this tale of a devided family and the mischief of the next daughter, Stephanie. A marvelous romp with twists, turns and rich, engaging characters. You never know what will happen next with such a diverse array of personalities. Great fun and a fabulous read! I cannot recommend highly enough!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The plot was engaging, the characters developed and the writing witty and humorous. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Well written with very funny moments which made for an enjoyable read. Recommend this story of charming characters, dialogue driven, outrageous exploits and wishing it had an epilogue.
